White Xbox360 Slim in the wild

California, 30 Nov 2010 (Tue) We know there are rumors abound about the color selections for the Xbox360 Slim, coming in various shades of the light spectrum. But the closest we got was the anti-black (white) color. Although not exactly an OEM color by Microsoft, we do expect this to be an upcoming option in days to come. Xtreme Enterprise is kick-starting the trend by the first-ever release of the Vee-faceplate, scheduled to be out in Jan 2011. Not quite in time for the Christmas holidays, but it will be one of the most wanted items in 2011.

Xbox360 Slim Vee Faceplates

California, 31 Oct 2010 (Sun) Just in case you're wondering if the faceplate on the 360 Slim is detachable? Its not. But is it replaceable? It is. But it involves removing security stickers from the external case which will somehow void your warranty but who cares...its a casemod thing isn't it?

And so the manufacturers at Xtreme Enterprise are coming up with a replacement faceplate for the 360 Slim nicknamed the Vee Plate. Do note that it takes quite a bit of effort to get the new 360 Slim disassembled. But definitely easier than the earlier versions of the 360 where the clips behind are really hard to get off for both the HDMI and non-HDMI versions (a solution of which has been found by us - see our 360 case products). However, the proper tools will definitely help.

The Vee Plate, named as the faceplate is angled at 10 degrees at the power button, will be made available at the end of the year. Installation requires one to have some ability to pry open tabs, snap apart hook-ons and finally, hot-melding skills. Quite challenging as compared to earlier snap-on/off faceplate versions.

The Vee Plate also has a flat wire attached to the power button and DVD on/off portions behind the faceplate. This is wired to solid state sensing electronics and it requires that the user be able to remove this part of the wiring and attach it to the new Vee Plate. Replacement flat wires are currently not available as it is too costly to produce. So you'll have to re-use the original ones on your Slim faceplates. (Warning : requires dremelling skills too, but heck, its a casemod after all).

Xbox360 Slim News : Vee Plate (aka faceplate)

California, 30 Oct 2010 (Sat) Got our hands on the Xbox360 Slim and we could not wait to examine the design of the console case. So we did a teardown last night and discovered a few interesting things, other than it being hard as nut to crack open.

Instead of opting for a removable faceplate like last time, the Xbox360 Slim has been redesigned to resemble a compacted front dash, with curvatures in all 3 dimensions. Unlike the smooth and round aspects of its predecessor, the present V-plate (aka faceplate) now has sharper lines that makes it look swankier. Looking at its side profile, it is bent at precisely 10 degrees on the position of the power button and reeks of "come-get-me". The Xbox360 Slim has a glossy finish and although the usual complaints of being a fingerprint magnet abound, gloss speaks class whatever you say. And unless if you intend to lug that console around very often, it really isn't going to matter.

The power button utilises a technology called capacitative touch sensing. In other words, instead of mechanical on/off switches, which requires you to physically depress the button to get a response, the new switch utilises the body's natural electrical charge to perform the function of on/off, augmented by solid state electronics. A light touch on the power button and magic happens. Neat indeed!

To disguise this change, Xbox360 Slim designers decided to retain the familiar look of the ring power button with its much-feared RROD. Now you can tell if you've bricked the console or its alive and kicking. One warning though, don't depress the switch too hard or it'll shout back.

Here's a look at the backside of the V-plate. Nothing really groundbreaking about its rear end, but you'll know that the designers of the Xbox360 Slim could have given its front dash a complete makeover given that its power button and DVD tray open/close button are touch sensors. But I guess in order not to shock people too much and have to relearn the use of the console, we're rather resigned to the fact that only minor changes will occur for future iterations of the Xbox360.

Xtreme Enterprise Manufacturer's Note : The Vee-Plate will be coming soon! Please contact us at sales@nds-central.com for more information about availability and wholesale opportunities.

iFixit does it again : This time with a DSi XL

d

California, 1 Apr 2010 (Thu) Call it a fetish if you will, but taking things apart and then putting it back together again seems to be a guy thing. As long as there is a purpose, and not simply as a tradition of being the first to de-construct a new gadget. But we see that the new DSi XL is simply an enlarged version of the DSi, with no added capabilities. Happy are those with large thumbs and bulbous fingers for your prayers are answered by Nintendo. Problems with the Kindle 2's 5-way navigation thumbstick?

California, 9 Mar 2010 (Tue) I have always found issue with the 5-way navigation thumbstick for the simple reason that you really need to have either a very small thumb to control it, or a very sensitive thumb. The KINSEI for Kindle 2 will address this problem with a newly designed thumbstick that comes free with every case order. Big thumbs or small, I'm sure you will welcome the ergonomic re-design and have even greater fun with the Kindle's navigation than you already do.

KINSEI for Kindle 2 - Faceplate for the Kindle 2

California, 5 Mar 2010 (Fri) KINSEI, pronounced as kin-say, is the latest casemod product from Xtreme Enterprise. This is an unofficial replacement faceplate for Amazon's Kindle 2 E-book Reader, and will be available in various colors when launched.

KINSEI, in its Kanji written form (金制) literally translates as "manufactured using the element gold". This special name was chosen for the Kindle's replacement faceplate as we know the Kindle serves to spread knowledge. And knowledge is worth its weight in gold.

You can expect the same high quality product that Xtreme Enterprise is renowned for. We are planning for this product to be shipped in end-May/Jun 2010, beginning with the colors Carbon Black, Scarlet Red and Crystal Clear. More information and detailed pictures will be released as we draw nearer to the product launch date.
